Spanish Fort Captures 5A Boys’ Title With 603 Total

Spanish Fort shot a two-day total of 603 to win the Class 5A boys’ state golf championship at the RTJ Capitol Hill Golf Club in Prattville Tuesday.

Homewood was second with 627, followed by Briarwood Christian and Hartselle at 628.

Three Toros golfers finished at 148 for the 36-hole tourney. Charles Woods shot a 73 Tuesday to lead the team. Nick Williamson, who shot a 73 Monday, also had a 148 as did teammate Padraic Sim. Sim carded a 72 in the first round.

Fort Payne’s Zac McCurdy was low medalist with a 72-71—143 total. His 71 was the low round Tuesday.  Mortimer Jordan’s Garrett Johnson, Athens’ James Medley, Fort Payne’s Cole Skaggs and Lawrence County’s Jesse Childress tied for second at 147. Skaggs and Childress shot first-round 70s  Monday.
