Ryals Earns Second-Team All-Sun Belt Honors

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) University of South Alabama women's golf senior Ashleigh Ryals was named second-team all-Sun Belt Conference, the league announced Friday.

"Ashleigh has been such a big part of our program for the four years that she has played for us," head coach TJ Jackson mentioned. "She played in all but one tournament during that time which proves how valuable she has been to our program.

"This recognition means that she is respected around our conference as one of the best players in the Sun Belt. She is well-deserving of this award, we will miss her consistency in our lineup as she heads toward graduation this year.  What a great way to end her collegiate career, congratulations to her."

Ryals finished with a 76.38 stroke average in 26 rounds this season after concluding the SBC Championship tied for fifth place with a three-round total of 225. In addition, Ryals closed her career at South Alabama with three top-10 and top-20 results in her final season.

Ryals was joined by Sofia Berglund (UALR), Laura Sanchez (Georgia State), Lauren Court (Georgia State), Lora Assad (Texas State) and Iman Nordin (Texas State) on the all-SBC second-team. The first-team included Maria Palacios (Georgia State), Alison Knowles (UL Monroe), Mara Puisite (Texas State), Lejan Lewthwaite (Texas State), Ftima Fernndez Cano (Troy) and Ellinor Haag (Western Kentucky).

Kristen Golightly was the last Jaguar since Elin Andersson in 2008 to earn all-conference honors, doing so a year ago.
