UofM Opens 2014 Southern States Athletic Conf. Tourney

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WPMI) The University of Mobile baseball team will open up the 2014 Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament as the 7th seed, as announced with the release of the tournament bracket.

Games will be played at Paterson Field in Montgomery, Ala. Mobile (30-21) will open against 2nd-seeded Brewton-Parker (30-9) Wednesday, April 30 at 4 p.m., and that winner will play Thursday at 4 p.m. against the winner of No. 3 Southern Poly and No. 6 Martin Methodist. The two losers will battle at 10 a.m. Thursday in the double-elimination tournament.

The Rams hosted the 10th-ranked Barons for a three-game set at Jacobs Field April 11-12, with Brewton-Parker picking up a sweep. The first two games were 4-0 decisions, with the Barons winning 20-19 in the finale.

Mobile enters with a 3-3 mark in their last six games and 3-8 in the last 11. The Rams hit .307 as a team and have posted a team ERA of 3.94.

Braxton Hamil leads the way at the plate with a .380 average, 17 doubles, 21 extra-base hits, 48 RBI, a .538 slugging percentage and a .452 on base percentage. Tayler Hardy is hitting .354 with a team-high 51 runs scored, 68 hits and 34 stolen bases.

On the mound, Jeff Price is 8-3 with a 2.36 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 91.1 innings, while Tucker Ward is 7-4 with a 2.96 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 85 innings.

The Barons bring a 2.65 ERA into the game, which is 4th in the NAIA. Evin Einhardt leads with a 5-1 record and a 0.80 ERA in 56 innings, while Mike Venturelli is 6-1 with a 2.10 ERA.

They have won 7-straight and 10-of-11, including sweeps of Mobile and Spring Hill and taking 2-of-3 from 2nd-ranked Faulkner University.
