War Vet Helps Roger Waters Learn About Father's Death
ROME (AP) Roger Waters has a 93-year-old British war veteran to thank for helping him find out the details of his father's death.
UK's The Guardian reports Harry Shindler had never heard of Pink Floyd, but he met Waters at a veterans event and decided to help him.
Waters' father died in World War II when Waters was five months old, and his death has colored much of Waters' music.
Shindler has experience looking up lost soldiers in Italy. He discovered Lieutenant Eric Fletcher Waters was killed in a ditch at 11:30 AM on February 18, 1944, as the Allies landed at Anzio.
The spot is now at the center of the town of Aprilia, Italy.
Waters wrote Shindler a personal poem to express his gratitude.
