USA Presidential Search to Continue
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) The University of South Alabama has announced the continuation of the University's presidential search, following a unanimous vote Wednesday by USA's Board of Trustees to consider additional candidates.
"This search process brought a strong field of outstanding individuals to the University, but we were unable to reach a consensus on our remaining finalists," said Dr. Steve Furr, chairman of the USA Board of Trustees, "therefore, the trustees agreed unanimously to continue the search."
Furr stated one finalist withdrew from the search.
The special board-appointed search committee of faculty, staff, students, alumni and supporters of the University will reconvene on Nov. 21 to continue the search process.
"The Board of Trustees is committed to choosing an exceptional leader as the University's next president," said Furr, "we are extremely confident that the right person will emerge during this search. Our University community deserves nothing less than the best."
USA's new president will succeed the late Gordon Moulton, who retired July 1 after 15 years as president.
Dr. John W. Smith has served as acting president and will continue in that role, but informed the trustees he would not be a candidate for the permanent position.
