Local CrossFit Gym Hosts "Barbells For Boobs"
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) A local CrossFit gym is using its strength to raise the bar on breast cancer awareness.
Members of CrossFit Mobile held their 2nd annual "Barbells For Boobs" Friday evening.
The fundraiser is a national non-profit organization, that provides screenings, diagnostic procedures and mammograms for women across the country.
CrossFit Mobile raised over $4,000 at this year's event. The local community support to help fight cancer touches close to home for Amy Hagler, who lost her mother to cancer last year. "When my mom was diagnosed with cancer, we had so much support from the community. They held a fundraiser here to raise money for her," Hagler said, "It was really awesome to have money to travel for her treatments and not have to worry about plane tickets and things like that."
Gym members and people that have never done CrossFit before all came out to participate, which owner, Will Richardson, says not only raises money for a good cause but allows non-members a chance to see what CrossFit is about. Richardson also stresses the value of family. On November 1st, CrossFit Midtown is opening, which is offering a kids program that will not only get kids working out but the program will also involve helping kids with their homework.
