Bayfest Organizers on TS Karen
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Bayfest officials are keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Karen.
The music festival's production coordinator said Thursday that if there are 25-30 mph winds, everything shuts down until conditions are safe.
Lightning will also cause show delays.
"We are in constant contact with the National Weather Service 30 miles out. If there's wind coming 30 miles out, we react and we react quickly, button up the stage and make announcements so that our artists and the public are safe," said Bayfest Production Coordinator Michael Panepento and Senior Production Manager of Red Mountain Entertainment.
Panepento said all Bayfest stages exceed the standards set by the Event Safety Alliance, a new national watchdog group for outdoor entertainment events.
"Our company spends probably 100 hours just on safety planning," said Panepento.
Bayfest is a rain or shine event, but shows could be cancelled or postponed if necessary.
Bayfest tickets are non-refundable.
