Double Red Flags Fly on Baldwin County Beaches
BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) Baldwin County beach officials report double red flags will fly until further reassessment Monday morning.
Beaches are open, but the waters are closed at Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.
Melvin Shepard, Aquatics and Beach Safety Director for orange Beach, said there are some strong rip currents and lateral currents. Surf conditions, however, are not as bad as they were Saturday.
In Gulf Shores, Scott Smothers, a life guard, said low pressure out on the gulf is causing high surf. Dangerous rip currents are still present.
He said, according to the National Weather Service, there is an expected increase in winds Sunday night.
Smothers says if all goes well, beach officials will probably drop to red or even yellow flags by Monday, depending on beach conditions.
