Handcuffed Arrestee Captured Days After Fleeing on Foot

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) The Mobile County Sheriff's Office had a busy weekend wrangling a man who escaped Prichard police, while wearing handcuffs.

Eric Sims, 26, was arrested Saturday evening by deputies, charged with third degree escape, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, possession/receiving of a controlled substance and third degree theft of property. All charges are from the Prichard Police Department

Officials say a woman, who sources say is his girlfriend, Krystle Powell, was arrested by Prichard Police. She is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a controlled substance and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sources say Friday the pair were in their vehicle in the parking lot of a gas station on Lott Road and Highway 45. Police arrested Powell, but Sims managed to escape while handcuffed.

Saturday night, MCSO deputies got a tip saying Sims was in Wilmer off of Wilson Road.

MCSO spokesperson Joe Mahoney says when deputies got to the home of Amy Russell and asked of Sims' whereabouts, Russell denied knowing.

That's when officials say Sims ran out of the back door minutes later. Deputies apprehended him and took him to jail.

Russell was also arrested and charged with second degree hindering prosecution.

All three have since bonded out of jail.

Local 15 News has reached out to the Prichard Police department and is awaiting a response.
