New Director Sought for Mitchell Cancer Institute
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI)
The University of South Alabama is searching for a new director for the Mitchell Cancer Institute.
Local 15 has learned Dr. Mitchell Boyd, the founding director of the institute and its leader for the past 10 years, is no longer in charge.
He has accepted a full time faculty position with USA's college of medicine.
A USA spokesperson tells Local 15 that Dr. Ron Franks, vice president of health services for USA with be the acting director of the institute.
A nationwide search has now begun for Boyd's replacement.
In a related note, on Friday, USA's Board of Trustees announced it is encouraging dialogue between USA the University of Alabama Birmingham to establish a Cancer Research Consortium Partnership.
The board states such an arrangement could have "tangible and intangible benefits of high value for both universities and for the citizens of Alabama and beyond."
