Recap: Manhattan vs. South Carolina
Brooklyn, NY (Sports Network) - Brenton Williams tallied 17 points to push the South Carolina Gamecocks to a 63-57 decision over the Manhattan Jaspers in a game that was part of the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational at the Barclays Center.
Michael Carrera added 13 points and seven rounds for South Carolina (8-3) as it earned its third consecutive win. Brian Richardson tallied 12 points off the bench and Lakeem Jackson contributed nine points and 11 boards.
Shane Richards paced Manhattan (3-7) with 18 points in 23 minutes of action. Donovan Kates went 2-of-8 from the field and 8-of-10 at the charity stripe for 13 points while Rhamel Brown got into the mix with 10 points, nine rebounds, and four steals.
South Carolina closed out the first half on a 9-3 run to take a 36-30 lead into halftime. The Gamecocks built their slight edge by shooting 44.4 percent from the field including 5-of-13 from three-point range. Manhattan converted 43.5 percent of its field goals in the first half, but trailed at the break after converting just 6-of-13 at the charity stripe.
The Jaspers came back after the intermission and went up 41-38 after C.J. Jones sank a pair of free throws, but South Carolina scored the next 10 points to go in front for good. The Gamecocks scored 16 points off of turnovers in the second half to help power the victory.
South Carolina enjoyed a 42-23 advantage in the rebounding battle.Game Notes
