Recap: Bradley vs. Illinois State
Peoria, IL (Sports Network) - Jackie Carmichael scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, as the Illinois State Redbirds closed out their Missouri Valley Conference regular-season schedule with a 54-53 win over Bradley at Carver Arena.
Jon Ekey added 10 points to help the Redbirds (18-12, 9-9 MVC) rebound from Wednesday's loss to 19th-ranked Wichita State. With today's win, Illinois State is one of five teams tied for third place in the MVC standings.
Walt Lemon, Jr. paced Bradley (7-24, 2-16) with a game-high 21 points off the bench, while Dyricus Simms-Edwards scored 14 in the loss. The Braves, who lost to Illinois State by 30 in the first meeting, ended the regular season with five consecutive losses to finish in last place and take the 10th and final seed for next week's conference tournament.
Bradley jumped out to a 10-point lead midway through the opening period. However, the Braves went on to shoot just 9-of-32 from the floor (.281) in the first half as the teams headed to the locker room with the score tied, 25-25.
Both teams shot below 40 percent once again in the second stanza, although Illinois State took an eight-point lead, its largest of the game, with just under five minutes to play. The Braves put together a late spurt but were unable to reclaim the lead.
Illinois State has now won seven straight in the head-to-head series with Bradley.Game Notes
