Recap: Rhode Island vs. Saint Louis
Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Billy Baron nailed a jumper with four seconds remaining to lift the Rhode Island Rams past the Saint Louis Billikens 64-62 in Atlantic 10 action at the Thomas M. Ryan Center.
Orion Outerbridge led all scores with 18 points for Rhode Island (6-23, 3-11 A-10), which had lost its previous five games. Baron scored 13 points and Jonathan Holton added 11 points and eight boards for the Rams.
Dwayne Evans tallied a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards for Saint Louis (22-6, 10-4) while Kwamain Mitchell scored 12 points. Brian Conklin and Cody Ellis put up 10 points apiece for the Billikens, who snapped a six-game winning streak.
Though Saint Louis shot just 41.2 percent from the field in the first half, it made five three-pointers and took a 37-31 lead into the break. Rhode Island made only 36.7 percent of its field goals in the frame.
The Billikens led by as many as 10 in the second half, but the Rams battled back to tie the game at 56-all on a Nikola Malesevic free-throw with 4:21 left. Saint Louis retook the lead a short time later, but two more Malesevic free-throws tied the game again at 62-all with 1:47 remaining in the game. After the teams exchanged missed opportunities, Rhode Island had possession in the final seconds when Baron hit the game-winner. One last shot as time expired did not fall for Saint Louis.
Rhode Island dominated on the boards, 43-33, and it outscored Saint Louis 35-22 in the paint.Game Notes
