Williams Hosts Football Camp in Prichard

Updated: Sunday, June 8 2014, 12:49 AM CDT
PRICHARD, Ala. (WPMI) Nearly 300 children showed up at the Prichard Stadium Saturday for a football camp hosted by former NFL star Sherman Williams.

The football camp was the Prichard native's first attempt to give back to the community since finishing a 15 year sentence in federal prison for distributing drugs.

While behind bars, Williams formed a non-profit organization that works with disadvantaged youth.

Williams said he didn't have the chance to attend a camp as a child and he feels this experience will help other thrive.

"What we know is from our life experiences is that kids need opportunities. What we want to do is give them the opportunities to experience some things in life that they may not be able to see otherwise," said Williams.

Former Minnesota Vikings star David Palmer teamed up with Williams to help push the initiative. Williams Hosts Football Camp in Prichard
