MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Coaches and players from across Mobile County made the rounds Monday and Tuesday looking ahead to the high school football season that kicks off with the routine of fall practice next week.

Tuesday was anything but routine, however for the Chickasaw High Chieftains. New head coach Ronnie Cottrell stood at the podium with four of his more experienced players, four who all have played football at the JV level.

"They work very hard to just make do with what we got. You know we asked one of our players the other day to go get a ladder which is a running ladder. He brought back a 6-foot ladder but those are things that we work through," said Cottrell.

The Chieftains will begin their first season without a single player having played a down at the varsity level. Coach Cottrell shared how his players still don't have a locker room. His players though aren't complaining, going without they say has helped them grow with each other.

"We're all football players at the end of the day so I mean we all have something to come together on, play hard," said incoming quarterback Chandler Rigdon.

Running back and linebacker Mike Williams says his goal to lead the Chieftains to the District 1-A playoffs and a state title, "That's what I think about every day. I think about I got faith in my team and I hope we go to the state the first year." Linebacker Mike Williams said.

The Chieftains kick off their very first varsity season August 22nd when they welcome Flomaton to their new home-field, Dotson Park.
