Alabama All-Star roster announced for 2013 Alabama-Mississippi Football All-Star Game

Updated: Monday, October 14 2013, 11:27 AM CDT

MONTGOMERY, AL AHSAA - RON INGRAM  Cornerback Marlon Humphrey of Hoover High School, a state track record holder and one of the nation’s top football recruits, headlines the selections for the 2013 Alabama High School All-Star Football Team slated to take on Mississippi in the 27th annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game Dec. 14.
The squad, comprised of current high school seniors, was announced Sunday by Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA).

The annual contest, an event of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) and the AHSADCA, will be played for the third straight year at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl. The afternoon game will be televised live by AHSAA TV partner Raycom over stations in Alabama and Mississippi. Montgomery affiliate WSFA TV 12 is the Raycom’s anchor station for the annual event.
Alabama holds a 19-7 edge in the series, which was played at Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium from 1988-2010. Last year’s 21-16 win was the fifth straight for Alabama. Place-kicker Thomas Hamlin of McGill-Toolen booted three field goals, including an All-Star Game record 51-yarder, and wide receiver Jason Smith, also from McGill-Toolen, was named Alabama MVP.
The head coach for the Alabama All-Stars this year is Central-Phenix City Coach Woodrow Lowe. The former University of Alabama All-America linebacker is in his fourth season as head coach for the Red Devils and has a 52-42 career record. He has also coached at the college and NFL level. Lowe is a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
Humphrey ran the fastest high school 110-meter hurdle in America last summer – winning the Silver Medal with a 13.24 time in IAAF World Youth Games in Donetsk, Ukraine to finish behind Jamaican Jaheel Hyde, who missed the world record by .01 seconds. Humphrey set AHSAA indoor track records in the 60-meter dash (6.89 seconds), 60-meter hurdles (7.80) and 400-meter dash (48.11) last winter and set outdoor state meet records last May in the 110-meter high hurdles (13.53), the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (36.33) and just missed a state record in winning the 400-meter dash.
Humphrey, who is the son of former University of Alabama and Denver Broncos running back Bobby Humphrey, is rated one of top three cornerback prospects in the nation. Still uncommitted, he is one of several outstanding prospects on the Alabama All-Star roster. Auburn already has commitments from several all-stars including Prattville running back Kamryn Pettway, Oxford running back Racean “Rock” Thomas, linebacker  Tre Williams of St. Paul’s Episcopal and defensive lineman Justin Thornton of Auburn.
Alabama commitments chosen to the squad include defensive backs Ronnie Clark of Calera, Stephen Roberts of Opelika and linebacker Keith Holcombe of Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. Linebacker Gavin Bryant of Jackson has committed to Tennessee, quarterback/athlete Kendrick Doss and offensive lineman Cole Hardin of Florence are heading to Ole Miss and Vanderbilt, respectively. Clay-Chalkville quarterback Hayden Moore has committed to Cincinnati and UMS-Wright quarterback Gunner Coach has committed to Southern Miss. Demetrius Kemp, a Demopolis wide receiver, is also committed to Southern Miss and Pelham defensive lineman Braxton Hoyett to Mississippi State. Murphy defensive lineman Taylor Stallworth has already committed to South Carolina.
Twenty-two members of the squad are still currently uncommitted.
