(Mobile, Ala.) June 30 -- Summer is officially here and you would not expect to see a lot of people still battling a cold and or the flu. But, local waiting rooms are filled with people who are sick with colds this summer season. “We’ve been telling a lot of our patients to drink lots of water, stay hydrated -- stay inside as much as possible -- those are the big things,”  says Robin Normand a Registered Nurse Practitioner who works at the Mobile County Health Department.

Nurse Robin Normand says a lot of people are also battling summer time colds at the end of June. What’s going on? Nurse Normand says coming in and out of the air conditioning only to step out into the scorching heat isn’t helping with a lot of what's going around.  She says, “There are a lot of folks who are coming in with headaches and that kind of thing."  Some are actually coming in with complaints of being dizzy and woozie, said Normand.

Aches and pains brought on from flu like symptoms from folks in Downtown Mobile. This licensed nurse practitioner also says doctors at the County Health Department are also treating upper respiratory infections, strep and extremely high cholesterol.

This week, we’ve uncovered yet more complaints of summer-time surprises at Greater Urgent Care Clinic on Schillinger Road in West Mobile. Dr. Darren Waters and his clinic physicians are treating Otitis Externa also commonly known as swimmer's ear. Dr. Waters has even seen a few case of Influenza-A, he says “Luckily none have tested positive for swine flu. Though heat exhaustion is common," Dr, Waters says he’s surprised the strep throat that's still out there.

Finally, Dr. Dee Dee Kidd with Mobile Family Care on Nevius Road in Tillman's Corner is treating patients with swimmer's ear and bug bites. There's also stomach virus, brought on by a few serious bouts with gastroenteritis
