(MOBILE, Ala.) - Family and friends remembered Dr. Yvonne Kennedy Thursday.
Kennedy died Saturday at UAB after a brief illness. She was president of Bishop State College in Mobile for more than 25 years, and first elected to the Alabama House in 1979.
Her visitation was held Thursday afternoon.
"Dr. Kennedy was a well-known, likeable person. She was such a leader to this area and not just myself, young people younger than I am will always know her. She will truly be missed," said Varetta Smith, who paid her respects to Kennedy Thursday.
Kennedy's funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 at the Mobile Convention Center.
