(MOBILE, Ala.)   Mobile Police say Leroy McCaskill Anderson, 25, was the man driving stolen pickup truck that lost control during a high speed chase and slammed into a Saraland gas station pump Tuesday.

Anderson died from his injuries. 17-year-old Patrick Smith, who survived the fiery wreck, was identified as his accomplice and passenger in the stolen truck.

Anderson had a lengthy rap sheet, including attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment, credit card fraud, theft, and speeding 25 miles per hour over the limit. Jail records show he was just recently released in September 2012.

Police said Smith also has had several run-ins with the law, but because he’s a juvenile, those charges are not public record.

Smith, who was being held at the Strickland Youth Center after being released from the hospital, was transferred to Mobile Metro Jail.

Police said Smith could possibly face a murder charge because Anderson died. Smith meets certain criteria as an accomplice during a crime which resulted in Anderson’s death, but it would ultimately be up to the District Attorney’s Office to decide.

A third suspect is still at large after Tuesday’s carjackings. Police said while Smith and Anderson took off in one stolen truck, a third suspect drove off in a second stolen truck. That GMC Sierra nor the suspect have been located. Investigators are following leads and have not yet released a name.
