(PRICHARD, Ala.) - Some students who attend one Prichard Elementary School are learning a great lesson on how to stay safe on the roads.
It's part of the Alabama Department of Transportation's Safe Route to Schools program.
The city of Prichard received $150,000 to construct a six-foot wide sidewalk from Indian Springs Elementary school to neighborhoods south of the school.
The sidewalk will make walking and biking to school safer for students.
"The sidewalk looks great. It's just a great thing that's going on here," says Principal Teffine Petro
Safe Routes to School helps provide the funding for communities all across Alabama to make transportation improvements like these.
