BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - School officials in Shelby County are reviewing their security plans after a deadly shooting spree in Connecticut.

Authorities said surveillance cameras will play a role in upcoming security improvements. Al.com reports that some schools in the county already have more than 30 such cameras.

Architects are also reviewing school entrances to make additional safety improvements.

School officials met this week with Shelby County Sheriff Chris Curry, Shelby County Commissioner Mike Vest and state Sens. Cam Ward and Slade Blackwell to discuss the issues.

Curry has promised to have deputy officers stationed at the county's 11 schools. He has said county commissioners are reluctant to approve the overtime funding needed for the effort.
