MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) The 2013 red snapper season will be the shortest ever on record at 27 days.
It will be 13 days shorter than last year's 40 day season, which was the shortest to date at the time.
Federal officials want to shorten the season to protect the fish from over-fishing, but anglers say the red snapper population is booming.
The council also voted in favor of keeping a two fish limit per day for red snapper.
Fishermen and boat captains continue to voice their concern over the new mandates.
