Publix Opens In Fairhope

(FAIRHOPE, Ala.) July 1 - A new store has opened its doors and it has Gulf Coast leaders abuzz with the business it could bring to our area.

Publix opened its doors off Highway 98 in Fairhope Wednesday morning. The 54,000 sq. ft. supermarket is the anchor for the Shoppes at Fairhope Village.. City officials say the store will help bring other major retailers to the area.

It's not without controversy. Environmentalists says the construction of the commercial outlet is disturbing wetlands.
