GULF SHORES, Ala. (WPMI) Officials at Gulf State Park are working non-stop to prepare for their zip line’s grand opening this weekend.

Preparations include the final training activities for their Gulf Adventure Guides.

Pete Sawyer, a certified trainer who also helped build the zip line, said that "to be a trainer someone has to have a significant amount of facilitation hours, also a significant amount of build hours and then once they've gotten that, they will work with another trainer, and then that trainer will say yes…you are able to do all this stuff. "

One of the exercises for the guides included how to rescue others who might lag behind or run into trouble.

State Park Officials intend for this training to reinforce the zip line’s mission: to have fun and do it safely.

The project has been under construction since September. Co-owner Tom Schlinkert says it's been well worth the wait and the effort.

The new zip line is just the beginning for the Gulf Adventure Center. Other upcoming attractions include: paddle boarding, kayaking, as well as Gulf Park eco and educations tours.
