(MOBILE, Ala.) June 28 - Austal USA says it's littoral combat ship prototype is ready to be tested on open water.

Austal officials say the ship, the Independence, will be sailed up the Mobile River, through Mobile Bay and into the Gulf of Mexico first thing Monday morning after more than three years of construction.

The test is to see if the ship is sea-worthy and work out any bugs or kinks before the ship is delivered to the U.S. Navy.
