MOSS POINT, Miss. (WPMI) A groundbreaking for the new Moss Point Police Station has been set for Feb. 6.

The Mississippi Press reports architect Michael LeBatard believes construction of the approximately $4,200,000 project could begin later this month.

Mayor Aneice Liddell expects the police station and its jail to be completed in about a year, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Earlier this month, the Moss Point Board of Aldermen approved a contract to build the law enforcement facility across from the Moss Point Central Fire Station.

The two-story building will have a 108-seat courtroom and new spaces for judge chambers and attorney conference rooms, classroom, offices, dispatcher space, a two story-foyer, among other features.

The second floor includes interview rooms, captains' offices, a briefing room, and offices for the chief and deputy chief.
