(MOBILE, Ala.) An Alabama Department of Corrections Warden made his first appearance in court Monday morning.
DeAngelo Burrell, 49, is accused of using his position as a warden for personal gain. According to court documents, while he was a warden with the Mobile Work Release program, he had two inmates move a wood shed from the Captain's Table on the Causeway to his house in Atmore on state time.
"Is there anything you have to say about the charges against you," Local 15 Reporter Tami Brehse asked Burrell after the hearing.
"No ma'am not at this time I don't," he replied. "It's a tough time for everybody but no ma'am I don't have anything to say."
Documents also accuse Burrell of using his office for financial gain. Burrell's preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 9.
