MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Mobile's police chief and mayor have teamed up and created an anti-crime taskforce.
It's called Operation I.M.P.A.C.T. (Integrated Municipal Police Anti-Crime Team). It includes divisions of departments tackling guns and drugs in Mobile.
Police Chief Micheal T. Williams and Mayor Sam Jones created the taskforce in July 2012. The first phase of this four-phase operation uses intense street sweeps to identify problem areas and violent hotspots.
The results of the first phase have been very successful with the arrest of 2,412 people resulting in 3,510 Misdemeanors, 921 Felonies, and 147 guns seized.
