(DAPHNE, Ala.)  June 30 - Even though we got a little relief Monday with some rain, Mobile is still nearly five inches below average rainfall for the year. NBC 15's Andrea Ramey shows us how the lack of rain could effect Fourth of July festivities.

With the dry conditions we've had lately, something as innocent as a sparkler can cause big problems. The Daphne Fire Department demonstrated for us just what kind of damage a sparkler can do.

"It can quickly and easily get out of hand, cause the loss of wild lands or structure or vehicles," said Daphne Fire Marshal Chip Martin.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, more fires are reported on the Fourth of July than any other day of the year. That's why fire officials recommend leaving the fireworks to professionals.

But if you're like Bruce and Dylan Wakefield, shooting off fireworks is a thrill they look forward to all year long.

"It's fun," said Dylan.

Every year they hit up mega store Shelton Fireworks for things like bottle rockets and roman candles. This year though Bruce will be firing them off in very crispy conditions. He says he's prepared.

"I've got a five acre piece of property so I have it pretty well set up and contained for fireworks," said Bruce.

"Conditions area still very dry out here and its easily ignited, grass is easily ignited," said Martin.

Firefighters say if you light fireworks this year, keep a hose or fire extinguisher nearby.
