PENSACOLA, Fla. (WPMI)  The Escambia County Utilities Authority has issued a precautionary boil water notice effective immediately for water customers in downtown Pensacola.

Officials say water service was interrupted due to the replacement of water valves shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday.

Bacteriological sampling is underway and the advisory will be lifted as soon as possible, officials say.

The ECUA says in order to drink or cook with water, customers should boil water for one minute at a rolling boil, or use six drops of regular unscented household bleach per gallon of water

ECUA crews have made the water main and valve repairs and are flushing the lines.

There is a possibility of discolored water. Officials say flush the plumbing by running their taps for a few minutes.

If problems are encountered, customers are asked to contact ECUA Customer Service at (850) 476-0480 for assistance, or view our notice guidelines on the ECUA website at www.ecua.fl.gov.
