BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Central Alabama is under a warning for increased fire danger because of persistent, dry weather conditions.

Al.com reports the National Weather Service put its red flag warning in effect from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday. The weather warning covers 39 counties in the middle of the state.

Forecasters say low humidity, warm temperatures and strong winds of 5 to 10 mph are creating conditions for rapid spreading of any fires that break out. Residents are being urged to cease any outdoor burning.

Counties covered by the warning are Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston.
