MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Sometimes legends are born and sometimes they're created.
In the case of the Crichton Leprechaun, it's hard to say which!
Our Local 15 coverage of the St Patrick's Day holiday happening back in 2006 went viral, now boasting more than 22 million hits on You Tube.
But now, it's time to put the Crichton Leprechaun to work... for real.
EZ Tax Refund$ will donate two dollars to Exceptional Foundation for each like the Crichton Leprechaun receives on our Local 15 Facebook page.
Beth Smiley owns EZ Tax Refund$. Her friend, Candice Davis, is the program director for an agency called Exceptional Foundation of the Gulf Coast.
Exceptional Foundation's sole purpose is to provide activities for mentally challenged people who have outgrown our local school system.
"They start regressing as far as their social skills," Candice explained. "We try to get them out into the community to enhance those social skills."
Beth and EZ Tax Refund$ have promised to donate up to $5,000.
"Everybody knows the sketch!," said Beth, referring to the humorous sketch used to depict the elusive leprechaun in the 2006 story.
But are we chasing a rainbow?
Does the Crichton Leprechaun still exist... if he ever did?
Local 15 went back to the street where the leprechaun tree still stands, and from what neighbors told us, the mystery still exists.
In fact, we found green beads at the base of the tree!
We also found a trash bag, with the following messaged scribbled on it:
"I need you all to clean up!" This is a neighborhood!"
It was signed- "Granny."
So does the power of the Crichton Leprechaun still exist?
