(BILOXI, Miss.) - A Biloxi woman was sentenced to 100 hours of community service after being convicted of hoarding cats.

78-year-old Dawn Summers was found guilty of harboring more than six adult animals over the age of six months, which violates a City of Biloxi ordinance.

Officials said Summers, who also owns three dogs, is a caretaker of a colony of feral cats, which she had spayed, neutered, and vaccinated for rabies.

The estimated 12-20 cats push her over the six domesticated animal limit.

Summers was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and two years probation.

Her attorney said she plans to appeal the conviction.
