MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Sources within the Alabama state government are confirming to WSFA 12 News in Montgomery that a cyber-intrusion has targeted state government computer servers.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley's office immediately directed questions to the Alabama Department of Homeland Security.

The Alabama Department of Homeland Security would only acknowledge that a cyber-intrusion of state government IT infrastructure took place and that a criminal investigation is under way.

The investigation is in its early stages, and sources say at this time there's no way of gauging exactly how large or small the attack was.

It wasn't immediately known if any records were compromised, and if so, which departments are affected.
