BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police say a convicted killer released from prison in November has been jailed as a suspect in a new slaying.
Police made the arrest Friday in connection with the death of 31-year-old Derrick King, who was found shot in the grass outside a Birmingham home. He died after being taken to a local hospital.
Police said late Friday investigators had in custody a suspect who had been in prison for a 2005 homicide and was released last November. The suspect's name was not immediately released because formal charges were still pending.
Police say King and the suspect had a verbal confrontation before the shooting.
A Birmingham police spokesman did not immediately return a phone call and email message Saturday morning from The Associated Press.
