(MOBILE, Ala.) - Mobile Police are mourning the death of one of their own.

Local 15 News has learned Lieutenant Tommy Menton died Monday afternoon, several sources within the department have confirmed it was a suicide.

We do know it happened at a home on Duronde Court and police say the death is not suspicious.

Lt. Menton had been with the police force for more than 30 years.

Just about anyone who went downtown probably came into contact with Lt. Menton.

The officer, known for his friendly demeanor, was in charge of the downtown precinct.

He was also known for his love for the mobile police mounted unit.

Local 15 talked to Lt. Menton several times about his horses, one time in particular when he was seeking the help of the public to name two new miniature horses the police force had acquired.

Lt. Menton also had a love for motorcycles. He restored a vintage police motorcycle in honor of his mentor.

On his facebook page, dozens of people have left their condolences, talking about what a great officer he was and how he will truly be missed.

Lt. Menton will also be missed by us here at Local 15. For a short time he also worked security for us here at the television station.
