(FAIRHOPE, Ala.) The Baldwin County Sheriff's office has made an arrest after a homicide in the Montrose community on the Eastern Shore. Police arrested Immanuel Jenkins and charged him with capital murder for the death of Donald Howard.
A body has not been found but police say there was enough evidence to make an arrest. The evidence reveals what are described as "horrific injuries." The suspect CJ Jenkins may hold the key to finding Howard's body.
Deputies spent nearly 48 hours at the crime scene. A body was never found but a large amount of blood was. This and witness accounts are among the evidence Donald Jefferson Howard of Fairhope known as DJ was shot and killed here.
"We have recovered evidence that the victim was here at one time,and that's why we did such an exhaustive search today. We searched by air, multiple searches by ground, we brought in cadaver dogs to aid in the search making sure that we haven't overlooked anything. and the search is going to continue, " said Baldwin County Sheriff Huey Mack Jr.
Neighbors tell us the blue trailer tucked in the woods had been a popular place. There was a lot of activity. Cars coming and going. John McDonald is a former police officer who says he's glad they have someone in custody.
"Kind of worried about it last night if they were looking for somebody or what. But we weren't really worried. Being an ex-policeman you always know what to expect, you know, " said McDonald.
Charged with capital murder is Immanuel Charles Jenkins known as CJ. He was arrested Friday morning in Mississippi, apparently four days after his friend Donald Howard was shot.
"An ongoing feud between these individuals that may have something to do with previous criminal activity. One person believing the other went to police things of that nature, " said Captain Steve Arthur with the Sheriff's Office.
Jenkins is now in the Baldwin County jail. It remains a case of murder with no body found.
"It's a culmination of all the evidence. The victim has not been seen since the night in question. We have found substantial physical evidence which leads to a mortal injury. We have recovered evidence both here and in Mississippi that lead us to believe that a capital homicide did occur," said Mack.
Jenkins bond hearing was held this afternoon he's in jail with no bond.
