The weather did not stop rivalry between Gulf Shores and Spanish Fort getting a little more heated tonight.

The two teams meet tonight for the UTV44 High School Game of the Week in which both teams debut a new head coach.  With tensions between the two teams already high, tonight’s game showed just how big the feud really is between these two teams.  Mark Freeman and his Toros are now 2-0 at Spanish Fort , Freeman left Gulf Shores during the off-season to fill the vacancy left by former Spanish Fort head coach Bryant Vincent.

Trailing in the first half, Gulf Shore finally got on the board by a rushing touch down from Brandon Silvers.  The Dolphins capitalized on a lost fumble by the Toros, which Ryan Morgan returned the fumble into Spanish Fort Territory.  Gulf Shores missed the extra point attempt.

Coming out of halftime with a 21-6 lead, the Toros drove down the field for 93 yards on their first possession of the second half capped by a touch down run by Otis Smith.

In the 4th quarter with tempers already running high, players from both sides got into a shoving match just in front of the Spanish Fort sideline after a tackle of Ed Autrey was deemed hard by the Toros and included a personal foul for facemask.  The play resulted in five persona fouls and one ejection of a Spanish Fort Toros.

Still trailing, Gulf Shores Shamon Campbell sack Joel Poe I the end zone for safety only to give up a touch down on the ensuing drive by Spanish Fort with a touchdown run by Otis Smith.

Spanish Fort (1-1) went on to defeat Gulf Shores (1-1) by a final of 35-16.

Next week the UTV 44 Game of the Week will be heading to Blount High School for the match up between the Murphy Panthers and the Blount Leopards.

backache... do not have to watch. I was there. T.V. must not have caught it all. If you saw all that happened, especially in the first quarter you would realize that S.F. initiated most of the altercations. If you look at what was happening in the piles, or could see what was happening off camera, you might feel different. I'll check back with you in a couple of years. Then, we will see what you think of Freeman and his coaching.

My what a different color uniform and 8 months make. Sounds like a lot of sour grapes on your part. Seems you are wanting to point a lot of fingers in the wrong direction. From what things looked like on the tv the SF players were reacting and not acting. TV doesnt tell a lie. I never saw the SF qb mouth off and gesture over the the GS sideline as the GS qb did after a touchdown. Several other obvious events occured and were captured by the tv. Your qb got tackled and rolled over and started punching the person that tackled him and another GS lineman piles on and does not get ejected. Yet a SF player can get ejected when on of his teamates nearly and what looked liked intentionally gets his neck yanked by his facemask. The player that was ejected must have been one that left the bench. One thing that was obvious was that the officials were horrible. The white hat had no clue. Signaled unsportsmanlike and called personal foul 2 times. Signaled illegal participation on a procedure penalty. He also had no control over the game. You could also tell the GS coaches were into the side judge all night, had him shaking in his boots. Did you catch the intentional grounding call he (side judge) made agains SF from all the way across the field and the white hat was right in front of the play and the ball hit at the feet of a SF player- go figure. Word to the wise- check yourself and your game film and or the utv44 playback and stop bellyaching. UTV 44 you did another great job and I look forward to watching you this Friday night.

You are so right BeachDad. Freeman is a liar and a thug. He fits right in with the Toros. He only cares about himself and should go back to selling used cars where he came from before Bessemer Academy tried him and fired him.

The way the Toro's played and thier attitude where classic Freeman. Play dirty and act like it's somebody else's fault. The Toro's need to remember Freeman did good his first year at Gulf Shores with the team Coach Davis built. The second year under his team... Not so good. He does very little coaching, no fundamentals, and does nothing to build a team mentallity. But he does yell and cuss alot. Trust me Toro's... All Freeman is worried about is himself and getting to U. of South Ala. He will distroy your football program and move on.. Look at his history.
