MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) With rain and possible lightning in the forecast for Fat Tuesday, Mobile Police and Mardi Gras organizers are keeping a close eye on the weather.
As of right now, Fat Tuesday’s parades will run as scheduled. Police are working closely with Mardi Gras organizations, and will ultimately make the call to cancel or delay a parade.
Police said it would take dangerous weather conditions to cancel a parade, including a tornado and lightning.
”As long as it’s not flooding and something where someone could get seriously injured, [the parade] will roll,” Cpl. Chris Levy told Local 15.
Levy said the decision to cancel a parade would most likely be made on the day of.
Unfortunately, with Fat Tuesday being the last day of Mardi Gras, a cancelled parade could not be re-scheduled the next day.
Historically, parades have rolled through heavy rain, sleet, and even snow.
