PRICHARD, Ala. (WPMI)   A group of concerned citizens in Prichard protested Thursday against their high water bills.

Voters across the state voted for MAWSS to take over Prichard's water board in November. The board has appealed that vote.

Protestors want the citizens of Prichard to attend a court hearing for the appeal.

"This is why we're out here, just to keep the people informed and to encourage them to be in court Monday Jan. 28, at 10 a.m.," said Severia Campbell Morris, with the United Concerned Citizens of Prichard.

Members say residents can't afford to continue to pay the high bills, especially since the city is set to raise rates by 5 percent in February.
