(Prichard, Ala.) -- The city of Prichard officially has a new leader.
Troy Ephriam was officially sworn in as mayor Monday.
The District 4 Councilman and five council members took the oath of office Monday morning.
Ephriam says his first order of business is to sit down with the council and identify what the crucial problems in the city are.
"I refuse to believe that we cannot change the culture of our community, from that of being forever linked by crime, unemployment, miseducation and low esteem, instead of ushering in a new era of strong neighborhoods, not living in fear and blight," says Mayor Troy Ephriam.
The new council also elected new leadership Monday.
Councilwoman Earline Martin Harris will now serve as president.
Newcomer Derek Griffin was elected as vice president of the council.
