(MOBILE, Ala.) The parade, music and MoonPie may be the major draws, but there is a lot going on downtown for the whole family to enjoy. Several museums are staying open late for the New Year's Eve celebration.
Joe and Marla Queen were on their way back home to Ann Arbor, Michigan Monday, but when they stopped in Mobile, they found themselves faced with a dilemma. Should we stay or should we go?
"We had no idea about the MoonPies," Marla said. "And then we heard about the parade and floats that are gonna come by."
Mobile's magical MoonPie casts yet another spell because Mobile's MoonPie drop is more than just the pie! It's a parade, live music, even free admission to Mobile's downtown museums between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
A great place for families to start would be the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Museum.
"We want you to come down and have a good time," Gretchen Jaspering with the Gulf Coast Exploreum said. "We don't get to be free to the public very often so here is you opportunity to come down and see what we have to offer."
While the IMAX theatre won't be open, other exhibits will. Family friendly attractions like Hands On Hall and every child's favorite, Wharf of Wonder.
Next door, the History Museum of Mobile will also welcome you for free, where you can 300 years of the port city's past as we welcome the future. You might even see a super hero or two with the museum's current exhibit of comic book heros called, Up, Up and Away!
"Comic books are a mirror on modern American history, so you can really see how Americans have changed over time, the way they see themselves, the way they seem themselves represented in American comic books," Scotty Kirkland with the Museum of Mobile said.
The Mobile Carnival Museum will also be open.
