The two teams squared off at McGill’s Lipscomb Stadium as
Bart Session looked to once again keep the Yellow Jackets perfect this season.
Both teams not able to do much offensively in the 1st
quarter until McGill’s second possession of the game, quarterback Jason Smith
took off for an 85 yard touchdown run to put McGill up 7-0 with 41 seconds left
in the quarter.
On Davidson’s quarterback Cam Jackson threw an interception
which proved to be costly for Davidson.
McGill’s first play after the turnover was a 49 yard touchdown pass by
Carl Lee.
With a little less than five minutes left in the first half,
Davidson finally got on the board by driving 69 yards capped by Juvaris Young’s
8 yard carry for a touchdown. Davidson
was now only down 14-7.
Not to be out down in the 1st half, McGill took
the ball 68 yards down the field to go up 21-7 at the half after McGill’s Trey
Roberts punched one in the end zone for 6 yards. Roberts ended the night with 77 yards on 13
carries and 2 touchdowns.
McGill started the 2nd half right where they left
off. Jason Smith led a 71 yard drive
ended with Trey Roberts scoring his second touchdown of the night. McGill was now up 28-7 in the 3rd
quarter.
Davidson fought back with a long sustained drive of their
own. With Kendyl Williamson out due to
injury, Juvaris Young most of the carries as the Warriors possessed the ball
most of the quarter. The drive ended on
a 23 yard field goal by Zack Farni to only be down28-10. Young finished the night with 68 yards on 10
carries and one touchdown.
Davidson got the ball back after McGill was able to get a 44
yard field goal to go up 31-10. After
six plays going 76 yards, Davidson’s Jaquell Craig got into the end zone on a 2
yard carry. Davidson was now down 31-17
which would be the final for the night.
Davidson now falls to 3-2 (1-1) and will host Theodore 2-3
(1-2) next week at the Lip.
McGill is now 5-0 (3-0) and take on the Williamson2-3 (2-1).
