(MOBILE, Ala.) - Nineteen brand-new homes are looking for owners.
"This project is for the family that says 'I can't afford a home,'" Andrea McCants of Mobile Development Enterprises said. "This is keeping the dream of home ownership alive for families."
The Hampton Park subdivision, located at the corner of Zeigler Boulevard and Middle Ring Road, is looking for low-income families to move in. Under the deal, a family could end up paying $750 a month for a home valued at $151,000.
"That's how much some of these families are paying for rent right now," McCants said.
A family must have a household income of at least $24,750 to be eligible. The maximum household income for a family of two is $33,200, and $37,350 for a family of three.
McCants says a family must make a $2,000 down payment, but then their first mortgage is guaranteed and MDE will hold a second mortgage for the home.
