The UTV44 High School Game of the Week presented by Whataburger showcased the Battle of Old Shell Road between the UMS-Wright Bulldogs and the St. Paul’s Saints.
Both teams had already clinched their playoff spot and were looking to get ready for those playoff games.
The Saints started right away as they got the ball to start the game. Quarterback Bradley Padgett started the Saints on their own 25 yard line and 75 yards later he finished the drive on a 1 yard touchdown run. The Saints missed the PAT but were leading 6-0.
The second quarter saw the Saints explode with points and that started with a big play just a minute into the 2nd quarter. Padgett hit Kylen Towner with a 62 yard touchdown reception. The Saints went for the 2 point conversion and failed, they now lead 12-0.
After that score, Jordan Huff took over for the Saints. Halfway through the second quarter, Huff capped off 41 yard drive by finding the end zone on a 20 yard run. With the PAT, the Saints lead 19-0 over the Bulldogs.
The last three minutes of the 1st half saw Huff help extend the Saints lead over the Bulldogs. He was able to find the end zone two more times on 25 and 3 yard runs. The Saints went into halftime with a 32-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
The second half saw the Saints pick up right where they left off. Bradley Pagett lead the Saints down field for 74 yards and took up almost 5 minutes of the quarter. The drive was finished off when Huff scored his fourth touchdown of the night. Padgett finished the night with 136 total yards and two touchdowns, one rushing and one passing. Jordan Huff finished the night with 14 carries for 125 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Bulldogs got on the board early in the 4th quarter when running back Hamilton Phillips ran in for an 8 yard touchdown run.
The Saints went on the win 38-8 over the Bulldogs, for the third straight time.
UMS-Wright finishes the regular season 8-2; they will host Saint James for the 1st round of the 4A state playoffs.
St. Paul’s finishes the regular season 8-2, and they will travel to Eufaula for the 1st round of the 5A state playoffs.
