DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - Court records show the federal government has dropped a felony kidnapping charge against a man after police say a girl was taken from an obstetrics office at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan last month.

Prosecutors asked the court to dismiss the charge against Charles Dean Partin, and that a federal grand jury had instead returned an indictment charging Partin with felony transportation of stolen vehicles.

Federal agents arrested Partin and Julie Bethke last month in Ohio after police say they led authorities on a nationwide manhunt for 15-year Ailene Lander. The girl is Bethke's daughter and Partin's stepdaughter.

Bethke, of Clayton, was served with a warrant earlier this week charging her with felony interference with child custody.
