When the power goes out, it's hard to see with that old weak flashlight, and if it doesn't come on soon, your stuck holding it all night. Ordinary flashlights like this LED one does shine in a narrow beam, but the Olde Brooklyn Lantern promises to light up an entire room. The makers claim that the 9 ultra bright LED bulbs will shine for 100,000 hours.
"They are brighter, last a whole lot longer they don't use as much energy so they're a lot better, yes," says Mr. Electric's Richard Tanner. Richard knows about the LED glow. He was anxious to shine a light on our lantern. "LED is what they call light emitting diode, this is an actual computer chip that emits light versus the old tungsten style light bulbs that everyone is used to," says Tanner.
To see how strong the illumination was, Richard placed it in the center of the room and turned off the lights. "It's not going to be good in trying to light a pathway, it's going to be good for just illuminating a room," says Tanner. And what about the built in dimmer switch, it promises to adjust from a low gentle glow to a super bright light. "I wasn't crazy about the dimmer switch I don't really see a need for it. Most of the time when you have this light you would want it at full brightness," says Tanner.
How does it compare to other lights? "I'm comparing it to what it is, it's a lantern. The sister of this the old fuel type lantern, it's a lot better than that," says Tanner.
In your opinion is this a deal or dud? "It's a deal," says Tanner.
The Olde Brooklyn Lantern will cost you $15 dollars.
