(MOBILE, Ala.) - LOCAL 15 News continues uncovering new information in the murder of a 70 year old man. New information from the same man who fought murder charges against Former Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine and now he's making the case for his newest client.
"The gentleman that passed away had a gun, there had been a history of threats and other difficulties," said defense attorney Dennis Knizely.
Knizley says Keenan Olson, 22, was protecting himself when he shot and killed his 70 year old stepfather John D'aversa
"It's a classic case of self defense," he said. "The death took place while my client knew the police were on the way."
Knizley says it was his client Olson who wanted the police to come even after his step-father, 70 year old D'aversa had called 911, then wanted to call them off, but John D'aversa's mother and daughter are telling a very different story.
"I heard 3 shots, oh my gosh i start to scream or holler then she says I shot him," said Adina D'aversa, who was home at the time of the shooting. She told LOCAL 15 news that it was Olson's mother, her son's ex-wife, who fired the shots.
Today D'aversa's daughter told LOCAL 15 News by phone that her father was ambushed by Olson and his mother and that it couldn't have been self-defense because her father was 5'9", 160 pounds and still recovering from a heart attack last month.
"It was cold-blooded murder and I want justice," she said.
