(MOBILE, Ala.) - Councilman Jermaine Burrell resigned unexpectedly at Tuesday morning's city council meeting.

Burrell serves District 3 in Mobile. He called today a "bittersweet day."

Burrell, a Mobile native and graduate of Williamson High School, has accepted a position in Boston as an information technology executive.

Burrell is nearing the end of his first term in office here in Mobile. He says he tried dilligently to further his career in Mobile, but could not find an opportunity.

His last day will be November 22nd. The council is already considering how to fill his seat.
