(MOBILE, Ala.)   A new law could allow folks in downtown Mobile to carry open containers of alcohol.

The City Council is expected to take up the proposal next week. Gov. Robert Bentley already signed a state wide version of this bill into law.

It would allow certain cities to create special entertainment districts where people can drink openly.

At least one city councilman is in favor of the idea.

"With us intermingling between bars and different types of fundraisers like Beer Fest and things like that, that will really help us enhance our district," says Councilman William Carroll.

Carroll wants to meet with the Downtown Mobile Alliance before this proposal goes to a vote.
